Jesus spoke about money more than any other subject, and yet none of what he said is as harsh as James’s warnings about the dangers of wealth, including how the love of wealth can lead to hoarding, fraud, self-indulgence, and murder.

We all have conflict in our lives. What if the problem with conflict wasn’t with those people out there, but with our own hearts? James calls us to consider our own desires and choose the path of humble wisdom.

The tongue is powerful. It is like the rudder on a ship or a spark that turns into a forest fire. It can be used for good or evil, to bless or curse.

“Faith without works is dead.” How can that be so, if we are “saved by grace, through faith”? How do we reconcile these seemingly contradictory statements and how do we consider our own works in relation to our faith?

Worldly wisdom begins and ends with you; what’s best for you. Godly wisdom begins and ends with God; what’s best for the Kingdom of God. When we lack wisdom, we should ask of God, who generously gives wisdom to his children.
